‘I want to go home.  I don’t want to stay.’

That line could be used to describe the sadness, fear, paranoia, and overall world view of both Radiohead and The Smiths, don’t you think?

Unknown Legend

Tunde Adebimpe

This movie could have used a tougher editor (did we really need to see all 87 toast from the rehearsal dinner?), but this song could go on for days and I’d still be listening happily.

Jens Lekman

I’d say the ideal starting point for Jens Lekman is his latest, Night Falls Over Kortedala. This is off of the equally wonderful Oh You’re So Silent Jens.

Speaking of starting points, I want to get to work on solving the problem of where to start with musicians and bands you want to learn more about. startingpoint.com, wheretobegin.com, starthere.com

Where have all the good urls gone?  F-word, f-word, pardon my French.

From ESPN’s World Cup Facebook page:
The 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa is the 19th time the tournament will be played, and the first time on African soil. To celebrate this historic event, ESPN, Wieden+Kennedy and Cape Town-based AM I Collective created 33 original pieces of artwork: one for every participating country and one overarching World Cup piece. Each painting brings to life the story of that nation. The look of the artwork is inspired by hand-painted African art found in the streets and townships across South Africa, and the entire African continent.

I officially have World Cup Fever.  I’m already starting to think about which European league I’m going to follow next year.  EPL or La Liga?

Vuvuzelas aside, how great is it to see Africa in such a positive light?

They came out right around the same time, and I can’t help but think of Silence of the Lambs every time I hear this song.  Spoooooky.

Mange

Deer Tick

Deer Tick - Mange

You have to listen to this! Best rock & roll tune I’ve heard in a while.

I had a bunch of new music queued up yesterday: Deer Tick, Nada Surf, Grace Potter, Free Energy, Gaslight Anthem and Blitzen Trapper. I had Deer Tick’s new Black Dirt Sessions playing in the background while I worked. I was enjoying it … and then this song came on. This will grab you with that bass line in the first few bars and then completely reel you in. And the last minute and a half is perfect.

Sounds a lot like Lucero to me, one of my favourite bands. Southern rock thing but with some punk sensibility.

A must listen. Andy, I know you’ll like this one.
